In an effort to enhance civic education and engage young minds in understanding the importance of local governance, New Freedom Borough proudly presents the “I Love New Freedom Because…” art contest.
Eligibility
This contest is open to students residing in the Southern York County School District, encompassing grades K through 12.
Artwork Guidelines
Submissions must depict an activity that exemplifies the significance of “local governments” and be inspired by the phrase “I love New Freedom because…”
The artwork should capture an aspect of a New Freedom local government function, service, or program.
Artwork dimensions should be horizontal, measuring 11″ wide by 8.5″ tall (PDF or JPEG). The key elements of the artwork should not extend beyond 10.5″ x 8″ to allow for trimming.
Judging Criteria
Technical Skill: Artwork should demonstrate artistic proficiency in painting, drawing, or digital art.
Creativity: The artwork must be an original expression of the student’s personal vision.
Artist’s Statement: Each student must submit a statement explaining the significance of “local governments” in their community or completing the sentence “I love New Freedom because…” The artwork should reflect the spirit of this statement.
Deadline and Submission Requirements
The contest is open to students in the Southern York County School District.
Submissions will be accepted from November 1 to December 31, 2023, until 11:59 PM.
Students can submit their artwork for consideration on the New Freedom Borough Website. (form below)
Artwork should be submitted in PDF or JPEG format.
For digital art or graphic design submissions, the design must have a resolution of at minimum 300 dpi and measure 11” wide by 8.5” tall in RGB color.
The artist’s statement should be submitted through the Borough’s Website, including the following details:
Student’s Name, Age, Grade Level, School, & City
“I Love New Freedom Because ___.” (Explain what you love about New Freedom in 1-2 sentences)
Each student is allowed only one submission, and there is no entry fee.
Winning entries will be featured in the 150th (Sesquicentennial) Anniversary Book of New Freedom Borough, making the artists a part of the history to come!
